A 10$ Laptop – Promising plans of Indian Govt.
India needs IT to progress and here is a great step from our Govt. to look into this issue, A minister of the federal government of India said that they are working on towards a 10$ Laptop . Now this news is really great for students who can not afford costly laptops, like India gave the world the world’s cheapest car Tata Nano , I believe it will provide the cheapest laptops too , so that OLPC( One Laptop per Child ) scheme can be revised .
Research on the new low-cost laptop is being carried out at the Indian Institute of Science in Bangalore and the Indian Institute of Technology in Chennai, said D. Purandeswari, Minister of State for Higher Education, at a conference in Delhi. This measure will help raise the quality of higher education in India,
The Minister did not however give the specifications of the $10 laptop, nor is it clear if the rock-bottom price will be achieved with the help of a government subsidy.
India did not sign up for the One Laptop Per Child program after officials in the education ministry decided that giving a computer to every child is "pedagogically suspect", and may actually be detrimental to the growth of the creative and analytical abilities of the child. An Indian telecommunications service provider, Reliance Communications, has however been doing pilots of the OLPC in India since last year.
I myself believe that intelligent Indian brains will find some solution and will bring this 10$ laptop a reality , Govt. is also helping so we can expect it soon . What do you guys think is this possible 10$ is roughly 500 INR ??
