Smartphones to Detect Disease and Conduct Medical Tests
Your smartphones will one day be your personal doctor and monitor every little nuances that your body is undergoing, it will detect your Sugar Level, Blood Pressure and even Cancer. In a revolutionary R&D activity undertaken by Korean Scientist at Korea Advanced Institute of Science of Technology (KAIST), a technology is being developed wherein your touchscreen phone will act as your personal medical device to detect biomolecular matter, much as is done in medical tests. The research paper was published in German Science Journal, Angewandte Chemie.
“It began from the idea that touch screens work by recognizing the electronic signs from the touch of the finger, and so the presence of specific proteins and DNA should be recognizable as well. We have confirmed that (touch screens) are able to recognize DNA molecules with nearly 100 percent accuracy just as large, conventional medical equipment can and we believe equal results are possible for proteins.”
— Hyun-gyu Park & Byong-yeon Won (Scientists)
Not only touchscreen phones but for that matter any other electronic device such as tablets, PC’s, that work on sensing technology can perform this function, because biochemicals such as proteins and DNA molecules carry specific electronic charges. A patient will be able to know the his heart, liver and other vital organ functions.
Medical tests of body fluids could also be performed for example; blood test, urine test, by attaching a strip to your electronic device. So here we can hope for some really major changes in the medical world that will make us more alert and more responsible to our body 🙂 We wish all the best to Mr. Hyun-gyu Park and Mr Byong-yeon Won and their team for research and development work undertaken by them.
