Wikipedia Blackout: Its a Black Wednesday
We would like to call today (18thJanuary 2012) as Black Wednesday as the largest created free encyclopedia in the history has opted to Go Black against the most highly debated Online Piracy Bill SOPA (Stop Online Piracy Act) as well as the PIPA (Protect IP Act). The notice of Blackout came from the founder Jimmy Wales through his twitter account.
Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) was bought forward by United States House of Representatives,and since then it is causing rage among all the IT giants across the globe. SOPA aims to protect the copyright and trademark issues. The new online piracy bill will empower the US government to stop Americans from visiting websites that comes under its scanner or has violated any copyright issue, and thus protecting the piracy of content.
Along with Wikipedia major sites like Reddit, Mozilla and TwitPic will go offline on Wednesday.
